Is the elevator recall required if the building has only two floors and it is equipped with a new Fire Alarm System? The old system did not have one.

All I can offer is that it is not an NEC (NFPA 70) issue. Perhaps someone on this forum might know.

I was wondering how they do a recall on an elevator. :-?

"Okay, just crate it up and ship it to us, and we'll send you a new one."

The pull the old one out with a helicopter and drop a new one in.

As usual Larry

I got my daily chuckle from you. We had a new fire alarm tech trainee on a job once and me and the head fire alarm guy sent him to ask the escalator guy (also the elevator guy) where his contacts were for the fire alarm recall in the escalator panel.

We were required to put recalls in a 2 story elevator...it was basically a dumb waiter between kitchen levels...it fit real live dummies :D

This is going to be an elevator and/or building code issue, not neccessarily an NFPA 72 issue. If required, NFPA 72 will tell you what's required. The AHJ may not even know (on the fire subcode side). Here in NJ, a lot of towns don't even have a subcode official for elevator and we wind up talking to the DCA (Department of Community Affairs).

It is a General Status that all elevator's are inspected in NC. Fwiw.

As I recall, the recall is via Alarm and out of service or a fireman's key.

If it travels more than 24' it needs to be recalled.
The building we are working in looks like the escalators they are being recalled.
