Good day everyone, hope all is well.

Is there any sort of requirement for having service receptacles in elevator shafts? If so code referrences would very helpful. Also, let me mention that the elevator belongs to a public school - perhaps it's a common requirement for public school districts. All comments and advice is much appreciated.

620.23 (c) requires one in the machinery space and 620.24 (c) requires one in the pit also. (GFI)

Also,,,,your lighting cannot be on the load side of the GFI

California Elevators Codes

Search results via a search engines.

Most all States control elevator inspections and have a big say about the new installations.

In my State drawings are submitted to the proper board with an electrical riser diagram, plan view and coordinated with the elevator supplier.

| Usually it will show a ladder, switch within reach of door in open position,
| two lamps in cages, and a GFCI(w/bubble cover), two circuits... and sprinkler head(s)

Depending on elevation there could also be a drain or hydrolic alarm, oil alarm or even a sump pump (physically in well) or alarm. All with there own independant circuits. Depending on the type of Lift, Fire alarm(s) and there locations.
