Elevator sump pump receptacle

Not sure how 2020 addressed it but 2017 seems a bit ambiguous.
620.24 requires a duplex receptacle and reference 620.85 where GFCI is required except on single receptacles for sum pump.
Seems you would need a duplex GFCI & allowed a simplex non-GFCI.

Engineer provided sump pump elevator with GFCI. I am not sure 2017 section 630.85 says shall be permitted does that also mean to say that simplex receptacle should not be gfci at all?

The 2017 rule does not require a singe receptacle for a sump pump to have GFCI protection. There is nothing that would prohibit that receptacle from having GFCI protection, and a change in the 2020 code requires that single receptacle to have GFCI protection.
