Is there anything in the NEC that prohibits (3) disconnects in series for an elevator. We have already in place and live a 200 amp shunt trip coming out of the C.T. cabinet to a 200 amp shunt trip in a breaker enclosure. Out of that the conductors go to a 200 amp panel in the same machine room. This panel also has the car lights, a/c for the elevator and the sump pump on it. The Department of Labor Inspector said you could only kill power to the elevator and not the lights, etc. so he suggested converting the existing shunt trip to just a regular breaker enclosure and putting a 125A shunt trip out of the panel for the elevator. The inspector suggested this as a resolution but the elevator rep says you can't have 3 disconnects but I disagree seeing we have come out of MDP's to a panel in machine room in the past and then to a shunt trip which is 3 disconnecting means. Is there anything in the code that prohibits this.
