Emerg. Egress Lights on Separate Switch?

The emerg. egress lights (powered by emerg. generator pnl) need to be on a separate switch from the normal lights in the area right?

Then a control relay above the emerg. lighting switch overrides that switch position on loss of power.

Just want to make sure that nowadays you don't put the emerg. egress lights on the same switch as the normal lights and somehow still override the emerg. lights (switch position) on loss of power?

I typically design for them to be on the same switch. The fixtures usually have both normal and emergency ballasts that allow them to turn on in the event of a loss of power whether the switch is open or closed.

Generator is different power source and different wiring. You can't use one switch for switching two different sources, isn't it? So the question is not clear definited for me, you need two switches anyway.

That's a good point. I guess my answer would apply to fixtures with an emergency battery ballasts on a normal power circuit.

no I figured this out.... for areas where you are allowed to have egress/emergency lights off (not always on) you can put them all on the same switch with normal lights, originating from two different sources (emerg./normal) then you use an ALCR (auto load control relay) to override switch positions.

In areas where the lights need to always be on (means of egress) then you can't really put them all on the same switch.
