are emergancy exits and lighting required in each class room with only 1 exit?

No on exit signage see IBC 1011.1 and EM Ltg IBC 1006 as long as means of egress is illuminated. That was just prescriptive. However, your questions depend on your local AHJ.

In my area we only need exit signs if the room requires 2 exits. Rooms over 1000 sf are considered group occupancy.

Emergency lighting is not needed if this is a typical classroom less then 1000 sf with exterior windows.

They have decided that a non-typical classroom is anything that is labeled anything other than classroom. So art rooms, music rooms, science rooms all require emergency lighting regardless of the size or windows.

I've never understood the window exemption. When we do the computer models we assume zero light source from the sun. At night time there is no benefit to having exterior windows. During the day, the sunlight can easily exceed the 40:1 ratio that gets enforced so strictly on our emergency lighting calculations. I just think it's weird.
