Depending on the building, you could look in two places. If it is a public building, office warehouse, etc., your local building code may be the choice. If it is a battery room in a generating plant, switching station, etc., the NESC has requirements for buildings like that which are not subject to the local building codes.

What do you mean by battery room? If the batteries supply power to some sort of life safety function there is a requirement. This is referenced by the FPN in NEC 517.32 to refer to NFPA 101 5.8 5.9
If we are talking about a storage room or a battery charging room, then no.
