I recently was involved in a heated debate with an inspector interpreting NEC 700.10, B, (5) to mean all emergency circuits i.e. breakers in a switchboard must be in a vertically oriented position as opposed to the standard horizontal left/right on/off orientation. My only response was to point to "separate vertical switchboard sections" meaning that the switchboard itself is mounted in a veritcal position but does not pertain to the individual circuit breaker orientation. Any help on a better way to explain this more thoroughly would be appreciated. Thx.
