This is not really an NEC question but thought I would ask it here to see if anyone has run into this before.

I have a project that has a 250kW emergency generator (NEC 701) which the owner is asking us to look into a Natural Gas unit in lieu of Diesel.

I told him I have two concerns with this:
1.) Natural Gas units cannot be guaranteed to start within the NEC required 10 seconds.
2.) I thought that somewhere in NFPA that you are required to have an on-site fuel storage for emergency generators. The problem is I can not seem to locate this in any of the NFPA books so far. Has anyone heard of this requirement and if so where would I find this requirement.

If it is a legally required standby system:
See NEC 701.11(B)(2)&(3)
I think that will answer your questions about the fuel.
