Emergency Generator Sizing with Fire Pump

I have an electrical inspector who is requiring that a new emergency generator be sized to match the OCP of the Fire Pump - plus the additional Emergency and Stand-by loads.

I have tried to as politically as possible to tell him that his is wrong, without success. He has offered to accept any documentation I can provide which he will review. However, I can only find information related to rating and size of the conductors and overcurrent protection requirements.

I am looking for help in locating documentation related to the sizing of the emergency genertaor with the fire pump.

Thanks,

You might check NFPA 20 and NFPA 110, seems like I seen something in there that did not require the generator to be sized for locked rotor amps, just start up current, you can also install a shunt trip breaker to disconnect the non-life safety loads when the fire pump runs, thus reducing the total load calculated on the generator. Also the fire pump transfer switch is required to be in the same room as the fire pump controller. (NFPA 20-9.6.4)
