Hi All, I am trying to determine if residential HVAC equipment(boilers furnaces) can be connected to a portable generator via a cord connection, ie.male cord cap on short cord or inlet type receptacle connected to equipment through a DT switch?
Please state code article if this a violation.
Thanks
Geo

As long as it meets 702.5

702.5 Transfer Equipment.
Transfer equipment shall be
suitable for the intended use and designed and installed
so as to prevent the inadvertent interconnection of normal
and alternate sources of supply in any operation of
the transfer equipment.

I will say you must be selective with your wording. A generator for a residential setting would be an optional stand by system. I know of a situation where an architect labeled a generator as " emergency generator" on the plans for a residential home. The inspector failed the electrical because the plans were approved with the wording emergency generator but the install did not comply with article 700.
