I have a simple office space where the corridor has emergency lights with "bodine" batteries and normal lights.

On top of it, occupancy sensors are required.

My question is: what is the proper wiring configuration so the emergency lights and normal lights are both controlled by the occupancy sensor but turning off the switch doesn't trigger batteries to turn on.

Do you just make these all night lights from a different circuit, keep them always on and make it easy?

After some research, I think I'm overcomplicating the matter... These can be either switched or un-switched.
If un-switched, run from it's own circuit and that's it, leave them always on.
If switched, control same as other normal lights, from same circuit and simply run an un-switched hot to the battery ballast.

Please correct me if I missed something.

Yes, each so-equipped light needs a 3-wire supply, with one hot and one switched hot, from the same circuit.
