Accidentally wired the wrong voltage, The red wire into the black volt lead in the battery. Now the light stays on when plugged in and when its not plugged in of course. After I had done this i saw smoke coming out and unplugged it as quick as possible. Any ideas on whether i would have to do install a whole new emergency light or change a couple of wires.

It's not just wires!
I recommend a new light at this point unless you have a schematic, troubleshooting skills and access to spare parts.

The emergency ballast unit has to be changed.
