Emergency Lighting Circuit

I have an existing circuit that has lighting and one general use receptacle. I added self contained emergency lights on that circuit. I was told that I could not have a receptacle on a lighting circuit with emergency lights. Any input would be appreciated.

I am not aware of an NEC rule that says that. The basic rule is the the power to the "unit equipment" (battery powered emergency light) be from the same circuit that supplies the general lighting in the area.
