Working on a dermatology clinic. Is there a code that dictates what rooms require emergency lighting? The corridors obviously require it, but what about exam and procedure rooms? Lab room? The exam rooms are on exterior walls with plenty of glass - I would be comfortable not having egress lighting within the smaller rooms assuming it is not a code requirement.

Dermatology procedures oft times involve some lengthy surgical procedures and many liabilities to and for the surgeon, etal are at stake and foremost, the patient safety and comfort.I would guess we are talking about requirements above and beyond egress .

just an opinion

I believe that if it's a procedure that can't be stopped, then you need emergency lighting and power. Or a procedure that requires you to be sedated.

Standard battery pack emergency lights don't really give much light, certainly not enough to stitch me up by. They are designed to give enough light to evacuate by.

Well take the term emergency lighting and change it to, emergency backup power. You're almost always required to have emergency lighting in any building.
