Hello All,

In regards to lighting, 2001 California Building Code (CBC) 1003.2.9.1 calls for "not less than 1 footcandle at floor level". 2000 NFPA 101 7.9.2.1 indicates emergency lighting to be not less than 1.0 fc avg and minimum 0.1 fc on floor. In regards to emergency lighting, has anyone been allowed (by AHJ) to use the 0.1 fc minimum per NFPA 101? 2001 CBC is the 1997 UBC with Cal ammendments. Comments from other states are welcomed. I do not know what more current editions of UBC indicate.

Thanks.

Re: Emergency Lighting levels

california is full of "fruits and nuts" and they require more lighting than other states!!!!

just kidding ya!

Re: Emergency Lighting levels

We do have our share of those "snacks", however steve probably have more of them in southern cal than us in northern cal, ..., although we do have berkeley.

It came up on a medical project reviewed thru OSHPD (office of statewide health and planning dept). But since it is Code, any jurisdication can enforce it. Just want to know what your experiences with this has been.

Re: Emergency Lighting levels

Typically the requirement is 1 f.c. along the path of egress. Some jurisdictions consider the whole place the path of egress and some will let you determine the main path of egress and light those aisles to 1 f.c. level.

It all depends on the AHJ....aren't we lucky!!!
