Can you wire light fixtures containing emergency ballast through a lighting contactor? The control circuit for the contactor may trip and the lights go out leaving everyone in darkness. The emergency ballast are not wired to the control circuit but are wired ahead of the contactor to the circuit feeding the light.

We do it all the time but use normally closed contactors so a circuit or coil failure leaves the lights on not off.

Sparky009, just curious why they chose to go with a backup generator instead of emergency backup batteries for each unit? Was it solely for cost purposes?
