Good afternoon: A contractor finished installing drop ceiling recessed emergency lights, the batteries for these units are just sitting on top of ceiling tiles. Not fastened in place, not supported. My Question. Does Article 700.12 (F) (2)(1)(2), installation of Unit Equipment apply to this installation?. They also connected the grounded conductor from occupancy switches to the grounding conductor. His excuse was that the wrong switches were shipped to the job and that it was ok to tie the Two together.

No they can not tie the grounding and grounded conductors together because of they got the wrong parts!!!

As for the batteries, it may not be NEC problem because it may be a manufactured fixture but it is a safety violations
