Emergency or Optional system

Wondering what you all think. If a required fire alarm system is connected to a Optional Stanby Generator does it automatically change the Stanby generator into a Emergency Standby generator. The fire alarm system meets all code requirements of backup power with its own internal backup batteries and charging system.

Welcome to the forum.:)

If the fire alarm system is already backed up with batteries that comply with the required back up power, adding this to an optional standby system does not change the optional standby system into an emergency system.

I agree with Chris, all the prisons I worked in had standby system. The fire alarm systems and emergency egress lighting were back up by battery power as required so the gen system was not classified as emergency.

Just a coment in regard to the prison I believe the system to be a 701 not a 702 optional sytem as it is propably required to operate the elevator and ventalation systems in a power failure required by the local building official.
