I am looking for some assistance from someone who has real-world experience in the implementation of an Emergency Power Off (EPO) push button as it relates to a UPS system for an IT room. The NEC is vague in it's requirements for one, and I'd rather not install one if not explicitly required.
We have an IT room that is getting a new UPS service, with the UPS being placed outside the network room itself. It isn't a data center, just a small IT space and there is no raised floor with wiring underneath. There is area smoke detection and sprinkling in the room, so I'm thinking it isn't required to have an EPO, but the NEC states that you must also have a plan of action for power shutdown in the event of a fire.
Has anyone dealt with these in the past and does anyone have a concrete interpretation of the code intent?
