We have a customer who wants to connect Invitro equipment through a transfer switch which feeds Life Safety.
The question is do we consider Invitro equipment emergency to allow it to be fed by an transfer switch for emergency power.
This equipment can not be connected to the Life Safety Branch, see 517.32We have a customer who wants to connect Invitro equipment through a transfer switch which feeds Life Safety.
Possibly but it would be the Critical Branch. The question is do we consider Invitro equipment emergency to allow it to be fed by an transfer switch for emergency power.

Is this equipment used to perform a procedure, maintain the raw materials (egg and sperm separately), or support the fertilized ovum before implantation? In any event, there is a non-zero amount of time before any generator kicks in. Even article 700 systems are allowed 10 seconds. Power drop outs and surges might reset or fry sensitive medical equipment. I would think that someone might want to install a line-interactive UPS with a 60 minute or so carry time to keep things all smooth.
And they need to, as stated, these can be Critical Branch circuits but not Life Safety. The loads are existing, they want to get them off of the Life Safety panel.
