What is the required distance between conduit and a wall? Assuming the wall is in a wash/hose down location such as a kitchen restaurant, spray booth, car wash, etc.?

Re: EMT in a wash area

per the NEC zero. But, the health department or some other code may require a distance.

I did some work in food processing plants where the Dept of Agg.. required a 1 in min for hose down and cleaning.

True, some areas are controlled more by the health code. I know when I did restauranct work I had to leave 1/4 inch between conduit and wall for washing purposes. I'm curious about a reference in the NEC because someone I work with just took the state exam and this question was on it. So there should be an NEC reference somewhere.

300.6(D) Indoor Wet Locations. In portions of dairy processing facilities, laundries, canneries, and other indoor wet locations, and in locations where walls are frequently washed or where there are surfaces of absorbent materials, such as damp paper or wood, the entire wiring system, where installed exposed, including all boxes, fittings, raceways, and cable used therewith, shall be mounted so that there is at least a 6-mm (?-in.) airspace between it and the wall or supporting surface.
