is there any code reference to vertical installations of EMT conduit.
the 358.30 is focused on horizantal applications.

i have been running into this when we are installing a machine where there is no supporting structure in sight. this is due to the manufacturing facility lay out. the unsppoted disyance coulde range between 15ft-20ft

Thank you all for your help

cord drop is not an option according to the code.

see code 400.7

flexible cord can not be hard wired into junction box. (see 400.7 a3,6,8)

the machines is either will need an outlet or they need to be hard piped.

Why do you say 358.30 is focused on horizontal appliactions? 358.30(B) applies to horizontal runs, but I see nothing that limits the rest of 358.30 to horizontal runs.

Have you considered using IMC or RMC in the problem locations? Take a look at 342.30(B)(3) and 344.30(B)(3).

342.30 IMC
344.30 RNC

They have similar requirements for support as EMT. I am not debating weather it needs protection or not. It is just difficult to do so when there is no supporting structure to use for supporting the conduit.

Thank you

Yes and no.

Take a moment and look specifically at 342.30(B)(3) or 344.30(B)(3).

Your allowed 20' vertical unsupported for your type of installation.
