i did not know any states ever allowed reciprocity of electrical ceus that were part of the multi-state agreement

I can take the same class for my MA and RI CEUs but have to take a separate class for CT. For MA and RI one 15 hr class each code cycle but for CT I have to take a 7 hour class each year.

washington wrote me and stated that they ended reciprocity because of high unemployment, when they talked about it in their meetings it was because they thought some states standards were not as high as theirs. i feel like we need to be able to reciprocate as long as the standards stay high, the reason for high unemployment is two fold and i can appreciate both sides of the argument on that, both have their merit.

i have to take only the approved ones for oklahoma, texas, and alaska they are in the multistate aggreement that maine, texas, and iowa are fixing to be voted on shortly, our state is in the process of raising their ceus from 6hrs every code cycle to 6 to 8 each year. most of the states do not reciprocate i wish that was the case as long as a higher standard is held.

One of the reasons that CE reciprocity was ended is that it took too much staff time to update the electricians records. For Washington State classes, training providers use an on line reporting system. This started in 2006 and is one of the best things our state electrical department has ever done. We (as a training provider) would email and fax the course roster in and many mistakes were made by the state and the electricians. Plus electricians were using false certificates of completion to get credit for a class they didn't take.
OK now before you get carried away "how much time can it take" keep in mind permits and hence revenue is down, so with layoffs there is not enough staff.
And out of state providers can get their classes approved by Washington state (Mike Holt does this) and use the on line reporting system. With the on line reporting system, the responsibility for reporting class attendance is 100% on the provider, where it belongs.
