Most of the states have enacted some type of Energy Code. California is under the IECC-2003 code. I'm interested mainly in the lighting portion of the code. I'm curious as to what forms California or any other state, for that matter, is using to "prove" compliance. Is there any "quirks" in the individual state codes that would cause a designer heads up?
Thanks!

As a start WI has a State Statue COMM 63.It lists several illumination levels for different activities. Dual level switch is required in some locations. Automatic lighting controls are needed for spaces over 5000 sqft.

Re: Energy Codes

In Washington, I have had to submit forms to document compliance with the energy code, at the same time I submitted plans for review by the AHJ. We also have an administrative code that supersedes one aspect of NEC Table 220.12. Essentially, what it says is that we are permitted to use a lower value for VA per square foot, if that is necessary to obtain compliance with the energy code.

Re: Energy Codes

In jurisdictions that go by ASHRAE 90.1 I have had to submitt compliance forms. You can get the free to download at:

In the CA energy code the outdoor lighting zones will take some study to fully understand. As of yet I don't. I only have 2 month's left.

In general, don't trust what anyone says (even here and even me) until you read the code for yourself

I wonder why I'm not surprised by that. :)

Re: Energy Codes

Well who has time to work and try to unravel California legislation in the same life time?
