I have a customer who is considering a lighting upgrade in his warehouse to take advantage of the federal tax credit for this type of upgrade. I am trying to educate myself as to the rules/regulations regarding this type of project. So far it seems that the lighting upgrade would need to reduce the lighting energy usage to 50% of the LPD as outlined in the 90.1-2001 standard. For a warehouse the LPD is 1.2watts/sq.ft. Based on my calculations, a 125,000 sq.ft. facility is allowed 150,000watts of lighting.
The existing lighting system consists of 51 1000watt metal halide high bays. The new system would utilize around 104 T-5 6 lamp fixtures. The new system should save around 13,560 watts of energy. The new system, according to my calculations, would use less than 50% of the allowed LPD thus qualifying my customer for the tax credit.
Does anyone here have any experience working with the EPAact ?
