Equipment ground sizing

What is the correct way to determine an equipment ground conductor using NEC2008? Possible examples in the #6AWG thru #12AWG power conductor sizes.

EGC sizes are based on the size of the over current device protecting the circuit.

See 250.122 and all it's sections.
 
250.122 is tricky and not one size fits all when figuring out the size of the EGC. For example on a 20 amp circuit with a #12 ungrounded conductor would require a #12 EGC. Use #6 for the same circuit and your EGC must be a #6 also. Use that same #6 for a 60 amp circuit and your EGC only needs to be a #10.

Are you trying to confuse the poor guy.:grin:

Use table 250.122 but Trevor is correct when you upsize conductors for reason such as voltage drop.

No, :) he was asking for a kind of one size fits all description for sizes #6 thru #12. My example was to show that it's not really possible to break it down to those simple conductor sizes without factoring in more information. As Bob said you can start with 250.122 and take it from there.
