I am in the process of installing an equipotential perimeter bonding ring around an " on-ground" pool. The burial depth of the pool follows the slope of the yard.the high end will be 52" in the ground and the low end will be about 8" in the ground. The pool contractor plans to backfill the walls with 2b stone. there will be no concrete walks, and I think the 2b stone will be the final surface around the pool. The NEC states the ring should be 4 to 6" below the subgrade. Subgrade is the dirt under pavers or decorative stone for example. The backfilling of the pool with 2b stone isn't for decoration. Would the top of the 2b stone be considered the perimeter surface, and should I bury the ring 4 to 6" below the stone, or should I bury it 6" below the dirt at the bottom of the steel walled pool? Please give an explanation to back up your answer.
