Inspector wants me to bond the salt generator box. As I read it, it is fixed metal parts greater than 5' away and does not need to be bonded. Or is the pool circulating system a gray area? (6) pretty much spells it out to me with pool covers and electric motors

Presuming you mean the chlorine generation cell? What brand is it? I’ve never seen one that wasn’t externally non-conductive (plastic).

An inspector last year considered all the metallic equipment associated with the pool to be bonded. Intermatic transformers on this job needed to be bonded. Factory units do not have a lug so they had to be added. We keep all the equipment and any transformers and accessories, etc.. all together in a remote spot on client's property so it's all in one spot. A fire bowl feature at the pool side, had a stainless bowl which required a lug and bonding as it was within 5' of the water. Metal gas riser as well.

The Jandy sub-panels we use have bond lugs as well as the separate salt power centers. Those get bonded.

I think that's incorrect. Because they have bond lugs doesn't mean they need to be bonded. That's if they are within 5' of waters edge.

I thought the same thing, but the inspector had a different interpretation. He considered it part of the pool circulating system.
We did what had to do to pass the inspection.

Most all the salt generator control boxes that I have installed had a bonding lug. Since part of it is piped directly into the plumbing for the water circulating system, they are part of it. This also is electrical equipment and not fixed metal parts. I will agree that if the control box is plastic and doesn't have a lug, then it wouldn't need bonding. Most of the ones I did were metal cabinets. The few I did with plastic had a lug, but the lug had a connection to the EGC bar.
