There is no way a legitimate contractor could bid a job I bided for $450--unless he or she is stone out of their mind, or plans to tack on a bill after all is done!! I lost a job, and the customer told me that another bidder came-in much much lower than me. I told him, ?Wow, that?s amazing.---seeing that the materials alone came to $250?. He told me, well they came in much lower, and I hired them. Lets just say this, the work will take two people at least 4 hours to do, and the materials are estimated at $250. I assume the competition is going to do it for $450, or lower.
Crazy!!

Is the "same" job....or different materials...like a duplex TR in place of a triplex TR ;)

Not to get too detailed, but the job required you to run 2 circuit's in conduit 85 feet away. The conduit had to be ran outdoors, and the wire had to be fished to both the panel and two electrical boxes. If done inside the house, it would cost even more.

Sorry, but we don't work for $25 per man hour (x2)<<<<This sounds like handyman work to me:D:mad:

I need to check my math than. It looks to me like you gave a proposal to do 4 hours work for 2 men for $200 + $250 worth of material = $450. Or are you saying the other guy gave this price? Like I explained to Larry a little bit ago. My head hurts today. Allergies I believe.

Ok I see the problem. It's how I wrote it:

Maybe this will clear the smoke: There is no way a legitimate contractor could bid $450 for a job I went out and seen.

Yet, if you read the entire message, then you should have came to a lucid conclusion on what I was saying;).

Never... That doesn't happen, does it? Anywho what is this duplex/triplex TR? Don't recognize the abbreviation.

Duplex TR = Tamper Resistant duplex recept.
Triplex TR = Triplex rigged with minimum clearance height of 100' so nobody can mess with it.

Never let an under bid get you down, or never come down on your price when this happens, just walk away with a smile, because someone is going to loose out, could be the low baller or could be the customer dumb enough to take such a low bid, and wind up with shoddy work, which cant get past inspection (if even a permit is taken out), but in the end they will loose.

I will not work for free, and if I bid work, I will be sure it is for the correct amount that with my overhead, is what it will cost me. so smile, it could have been you taking a beating if you didn't stick to your guns and lowered your price.;)

I agree about not lowering your price. As soon as you do, you immediately give the impression you were overcharging to begin with.

Bidding is part of the game. Some are better at it than others. Accept the fact that they hired someone who is willing to eat hot dogs every night and move on.

I agree!!
To add. We've never changed our estimate to satisfy a customers apathy---if the difference was caused by comparing our price to another contractor or non-contractors price. In my view that?s suicide!!

You should learn to be like me and highball all your bids in the first place. Then like me you will never come here wining about a lost bid, because you know you were commiting near larceny in the first place with that bid. Its like fishing, its fun when one bites the hook, but plenty swim right past and only look at the bait.... I don't really care about non biting fish in the first place, no lost sleep. Fishin is like that....
