I have a friend who was told that instead of getting a 380 volt three phase transformer to run some woodworking equipment, to simply run the 380 volt 50 hz equipment rated equipment on 480 volt three phase 60 hz because the equipment was built heavy duty....is this feasable?...safe??

Thanks for any information!

The present "harmonised" standard in the EU (which is much of Europe) is 400V 50Hz.
Your 480V 60Hz keeps the V/Hz ratio about right so it wouldn't be a major problem for any transformers in the equipment.
But any 3-ph motors would run, or try to run, 20% faster. It might not be a problem for the motors but the driven equipment might not be rated for that and safety margins could be compromised.
And anything voltage sensitive would get 20% higher voltage.
A transformer would address the voltage but not the frequency.

In short, without a detailed knowledge of what exactly is in the equipment, I suggest that it is not a good idea.
