European Sconces

Okay I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum. But I've had more than a few customers import European wall sconces. And the problem isn't with the colors or the bulbs. It's the bases, they're smaller than a standard ceiling ring or cutin box.Does anyone have a reasonable idea as to how to safely install these fixtures. I've been told that boxes are not required in Europe. That just doesn't seem right.We had no choice but to free wire 2 sconces recently which had just over 2" bases, and now I'm told we have a base that's a 1" strip on a new project. I'm open to ideas. Thanks

I hope "free wire" doesn't mean install without a box. Because of it does you are wrong when you say you had no choice.

You're right there's no excuse. We have to uphold standards. I guess the only solution is to use a blank plate backing attached to a box which will keep everything enclosed. Thanks
