EV charging emergency shut off

Is it required in the NEC to have an emergency shut off for public EV charging like you would for a gas station?

The ones I have seen don't have them. I think they have ground fault protection though.

Why would you need it? If the batteries in a vehicle start to burn cutting power isn't going to do anything.
