Hey all,
Been a longtime lurker and finally thought it was time to make an account and ask a question.
I have been getting this a few times as of late. My city has many old condo buildings and of course people want to add EV chargers to these parking garage locations. The problem is that the metering centers are in the garage at the bottom and the units are all above. That is not necessarily the issue as I could feeder tap to a disconnect and make it work. The issue is all these services are bare minimum in terms of load/rating of equipment. When I do load calculations the contractors of the time put in just above the bare minimum required by the calculation with no overhead to add much of anything to the units, and especially not a 240 volt EV charger. Most are 100 amps-125 amps but stacked with 240 electric appliances (dryers, ranges, water heaters, a/c). Most of these condos are underground services as well. All AHJ's in my area are requiring a load calculation onsite when inspection occurs as well.
My question would be is anyone else running into this and what are some solutions that I may not be seeing that could rectify this issue?
