EV charging station certification?

I've been told by a few people that there is some sort of certification required to be able to install EV charging stations for electric cars. Is that true are there any websites that give more info?

May be a manufacturers requirement, but it does not make sense to me. I don't know why everyone makes a big deal about EV charging stations, I mean its just a load or an appliance, right. Read instructions, install per NEC, cash check, repeat.

A lot of people on here installed red boxes, etc. last year, did they have to have Red Box certification?

I can attest, however, that I have tried to get EV charger info. from the manufacturers and they are very reluctant to speak with you, they do sam to have their preferred installers in a make shift sales territory around here.
