While I have not yet installed one of these EV charging stations I've been doing some reading about them and stumbled upon this website - www.plugincars.com . If you scroll down to where it says "Buying Your First Home EV Charger" you'll come to this page : http://www.plugincars.com/quick-guide-buying-your-first-home-ev-charger-126875.html . And again, if you scroll to the bottom you'll come to this statement :
I'm hoping that these electric car dealers are hiring qualified and licensed electricians (at least here in NJ) to do these installations and not just a "Recommended and Certified Installer". How can an electrician screw this up ? How difficult could this possibly be ? It's one cable run. Here in NJ, unless you're a HO you'll need a license to do that work
A Word about Electricians
There’s some debate about whether or not you should use a contractor referred by your dealership. The general view is that any qualified electrician can handle the installation, and that you’ll avoid premiums charged by so-called EV installation specialists. The key is if you can absolutely identify a skilled electrician—because a bad electrician can mess up the job.
EV owners who aren't certain of their ability to judge the quality of an electrician are advised to go with a manufacturer's recommended certified installer.
