Did a meter to meter/main change out today. Problem was dryer and Air Conditioner quit working. I was a house about 50 years old and now a rental. Really crazy stuff had been done in the place.
Some one had tapped in to the bottom lugs of the meter to a sub panel. I guess they did not have #6 or #4 to feed the panel which contained two 2p/30a breakers so they so they paralleled two #10. Eventually it overheated until it burnt through to the point of melting the back if the meter. One set of the #10's where a little short so they spliced them real good (see attachment). What you see is the way they came out of the sub panel. I just cut them out with enough wire to show.
The dryer circuit came out of the sub with 10/2 romex and a #12 THHN and up the wall into the soffit. It came out in the laundry room as 10/2 UF with the ground cut out of the jacket and a piece of #12 THHN green attached to it as in the picture. Which ran down the wall and in behind the laundry room recepticle.
Man I love this work.
