My customer wants to know with certainty whether the following is allowed by NEC. No work is started.

Customer wants to install GFCI outlet outside, on the leg of a wooden deck, to supply 120v power to a 12v landscape lighting transformer. Power will come from the crawlspace, and it would be hard to go down there to press the reset button. Therefore, customer wants to know if the GFCI device can be outside, such that the feeder from the crawlspace to the outside receptacle is NOT protected (except by waterproof conduit, of course).
The very fact that wet-location GFCI receptacles are made sort of answers my question (that the GFCI receptacle can be outside at the transformer), but I'd like some confirmation. Can you cite NEC code?

The EC you are going to hire can help you.
