Bryan,
Many of the rules and laws in Illinois do not apply to Chicago. The laws and rules often read "except in municipalities with a population of 500,000 or more". Also there is no state electrical code or license in Illinois....it is all local.

I wonder how active the enforcement of this Chicago rule is?
Q: Can owners do their own electrical work?
A: No. Due to the potential for electric shock or fire hazard, only Electrical Contractors licensed by the City of Chicago can perform electrical installations.

Dons right, you can get the application for the Chicago test on the Building Department web site.
They just gave the test in November, they usually give it in June also.
It's a pretty tough test, you have to know the Chicago code book really well to have a chance of passing it. It consist of 150 questions in 240 minutes.
You have to know a lot of answers without looking them up to finish on time.
I just took the test to see if I could pass it. I passed but I wasn't very optimistic after I was done.

I just went to the Chicago site and noticed under Exam Schedules that the next supervising electrical exam is not posted.
It will be posted once they set a date for it. Like I said probably in June.
