I took the pennsylvania journeyman exam a few weeks ago and missed passing by one point. I have been studying using Mike's material for weeks and am going to take it again very soon. However...I cannot find the answer to a question that was on the test.....question is.....The zone classification for hazardous locations is determined by whom?
a. qualified person
b. master electrician
c. person with jurisdiction
those are the only choices i remember. is this in the code book? I have the 2011 code and realize the test pertains to the 2008 book.

navy, Im also from Pa, its not a state exam, if your in Lehigh Valley its probably a local exam but will be honered anywhere in the state provided its an exam given by a national testing agency. As an inspector in both NJ and PA the engineer or architect usually classifies the location and then seals the drawings, unless the inspector (authority having jurisdiction) dis agrees with it during a plan review. Sorry I dont have a code book in front of me to refer to the other article mentioned but thats how its done in NJ, in Pa its the engineer as well but PA doesnt have a very strong UCC, just keep that in mind. The reason myself as an inspector doesnt designate the class and division is because plans have to be submitted first because we have no idea what the facility is going to be making or storing so I would say "qualified person" meaning a licensed engineer.

Well...used mike holt's exam prep book and finally passed the journeyman's exam. Too bad the license won't let me do residential work here in allentown,pa.I now have to take the Residential electrician exam...which has less requirements than the journeyman exam...only 60 questions and three hour time period. Can you believe it???
