I have the following questions that I had on my exam that I struggled to find the correct answer for:

You have a guest suite with provisions for cooking. The conduit is EMT. What size conductor do you need???
I wrote down #12, it was a direct answer, no multiple choice.
You have a 13KW range. 120/208V circuit. Ampacity/VA of the circuit needed. Multiple choice to pick from.
Answer that I came up with never matched any of the multiple choice answers.
How do you identify conductors from different systems. What are the requirements? How are they to be marked, where are they to be marked?

THANKS FOR THE HELP.

There must be more to this question. What size conductor for what? The feed, the range, the recep????

Try Table 220.55 Note 1. I would use this table since art. 210.18 says so if this is for the guest suite.

Since I have to run and can't find the art. I will leave this to others

310.11 has info on marking conductors I wonder if the "different systems" is just to throw you off?

I wonder if they are asking about identifying ungrounded conductors when multiple systems are installed in the building.

210.5(C) gives the requirements for identifying branch circuit ungrounded conductors when the premises has more than one voltage system.

For your first question, the information given would make this qualify as a dwelling unit. 220.82 implies that a dwelling unit can have an ampacity of less than 100A. Since the information given does not meet the diffinition of a single family dwelling unit, I would go to 230.79(D) or 60A. 310.16 for a 60 degree conductor, since I'm under 100A, is a #4. 110.14(C)1(a)1 Compare T310.15(B)(6) and 310.15(B)(6)

For your second Question, lacking further information, I would figure the ampacity needed for the branch circuit supplying this unit based on the KW rating. 13KW/ (208V X 1.731) =36A, for a #8 conductor. If they were asking for the load to figure the feeder to my unit I would use the 220.55 table

Hi - thanks for the answers so far.

Nope there is nothing more to the question except for what I wrote down (you also have to remember these are not fully word for word either).

They ask: What size conductor do you need that is in EMT conduit that is going to a guest suite that has provision for cooking.

About the identifying the conductors of different systems, it was a multiple choice answer where you had to pick 3 of the 5 answers that was correct (i hate these questions). I can't remember if the "ungrounded" conductor was a part of the question. I know for sure 310.11 had nothing to do with the question at all. It was conductors like in a warehouse going to junction boxes an there was those of different types and I think they were asking how they are to be identified.

Some of the choices was to be marked at each panelboard. To be marked at each junction box. Someting on the neutral to be marked. I took most of the answers from 225.37 for the question, but it still had that 1 more you had to find that made it tough.

sorry i can't remmeber more on the range calculation. I took the problem as a range calculation but either I did it wrong that none of the answers given matched mine, or it was just a straight range problem.

I hear you Barbeer....

no i just wish i had the right understanding if i was doing the problems correctly or not. The state of MN does not allow you to get review answers/questions after your test. it's either you pass or fail and if you fail we won't tell you why. sucks doesn't it.

if anyone has any type of input or maybe even knows that the questions was geared for (that i could remember and wrote down for you) just let me know.

Thanks.
