I downloaed a estimating spreadsheet, It look great and has lots of potential. The only problem is that it has a bad link between work files. Can anyone suggest how to repair. Just contact me or suggest how to upload the file. I have no problem emailing it out.

Thanks

Big your link is fine thats the software here smashing it. The web page came up fine. (if you ever have a question again about, right click under the Linked text and look at properties)

First I'd see if there's on update on your excel, how old is it...? This might be your problem right there. If that's not the case....

I would compose a letter, note your excel version and see what they come back with for an answer.
If the host site, sends you a, "ah hey - hey talk to the Owner" then fire them one too...

Excel Problem

oops sorry I was not clear, the problem is not the link to the file. The problem is the file with its link to the other workbooks. If you open the file you will notice that the residential file has a bad link. Is it looking for the material workbook? If you open the material workbook it has an error. I don't know anything about excel so I need the help to repair and hopefully I can use it.

Thanks

Having written an Excel based spreadsheet myself [with the unsolicited help from some lunatic in California]....

IMHO....

Your best course of action is to contact the author.
"Simple" changes can render the entire sheet useless.

Or worst yet, make it look like it's working and cause you to underbid.

I took a quick look at the file and my links worked fine.

Make sure you extract the zip files together into the same folder, preferably named the same as the original folder. That might be part of your problem. Also, your computer my not be allowing the macros to run (even without asking) depending on the security software and the security levels you have set. If the macros don't run, the software doesn't work properly. You should be getting a popup when you first open the spreadsheet asking if you want to enable the macros. The correct answer is yes.

After looking at the spreadsheets, there will have to be a lot of modifications to the information to work in your area such as tax rates by city and updating the pricing for the materials based on your supplier. If you are not adept at Excel, this may be an overwhelming task for you and you may want to reconsider. If you want to use this as a learning experience, then follow the caveat above and double check the estimates by hand.

Good Luck
