Existing electrical enclosure condition

How do I determine if the doors on existing electrical enclosures are up to code or can they be "Grandfathered" to pass current requirement.

If the doors peform the opertaion they are intended by design to perform, then a professional judgment should be able to be made.

Any shadow of a doubt would make replacment necessary, in my opinion. :)
