I have a project that involves an existing olympic size indoor swimming pool that was constructed in the 60's.
The owner requested the lighting be changed, we thus removed the old lighting system and replaced it accordingly.
The linspector said that since the pool was construced when bonding was not required, in now needs to be brought up to current code and that the metal pool parts have to be bonded per NEC 680.26.
Does the inspector have the Authority to require such an action? I found this request burdensom as we really had nothing to do with the pool it self, and we only replaced the lighting. To comply with this request, drains, niches, ect. have to be jack hammered out to the structural rebar and bonded.
This appears to be an excessive burden on the owner, am I missing something?
