existing pool has an enclosure installed around it,(all 4 walls) is a 125v 15 or 20 amp GFI recept. required inside the enclosure 10 to 20 ft from the waters edge. House is 30ft away from the pool

Yes, you must have at least one receptacle. 680.22(A)(3) Dwelling Unit(s).

Where a permanently installed pool is installed at a dwelling unit(s), no fewer than one 125-volt 15- or 20-ampere receptacle on a general-purpose branch circuit shall be located not less than 3.0 m (10 ft) from and not more than 6.0 m (20 ft) from the inside wall of the pool. This receptacle shall be located not more than 2.0 m (6 ft 6 in.) above the floor, platform, or grade level serving the pool.

Yes, it must be GFCI protected. 680.22(A)(5) GFCI Protection.

All 125-volt receptacles located within 6.0 m (20 ft) of the inside walls of a pool or fountain shall be protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter. Receptacles that supply pool pump motors and that are rated 15 or 20 amperes, 120 volt through 240 volts, single phase, shall be provided with GFCI protection.

680-6(a)(2) is silent as to whether it has to be inside or outside of a permanent wall or other barrier.
In the 1999 Handbook the intent is stated as: To permit ordinary appliances to be safely plugged in and used near the pool, but avoid the need for extension cords in the vicinity of the pool.
With that in mind, it would seem that the receptacle inside the wall would be the best choice.

oops I forgot you stated existing pool.
A few questions come to mind.

What code was in effect at the time? Was the recep required then? Pool must be in compliance with edition of the NEC at the time it was installed, at the very least.

Do you just want to bring the installation up to current code?

Is there remodeling going on? Is an inspector requiring the installation of the recep? If there is a retrofit requirement in 680, it has eluded me. Sometimes during the course of a remodel, an inspector will start looking for other things to call.

With the pool already existing, the receptacle needs to be added? Why would you have to add one after the fact just because an enclosure is being built?
