Existing dwelling unit has 200 amp service, need to pull permit for power company hookup. Existing service has 1 ground rod so I will add another 6' away. There is no water piping within 5 feet the closest water piping is across the house about 60' away, the water supply to the house from the street is PVC. Would i still be required to bond to the interior water piping system. I just can't get this straight I just picture for some reason the power company loosing their ground at transformer, loosing the ground rod connection and energizing the plumbing.

You still have to bond the interior metal water piping, however that can be done in any location, it does not have to be withing the first5' like it would be if the water line was also a grounding electrode.

Your concern about energizing the piping is valid but consider that all the items connected to an EGC will be at that raised potential to earth so having the water line bonded will at least keep the water lines the same potential as all the items connected to the EGC.

So I would use Table 250.122 and run #6cu to water heater 60' to 80' away.

No.

It will be table 250.66, please take a look at 250.104 for specifics.

As far as running to the water heater you can but you can go any place you want.

Is there any closer metal water piping?

Just went back to Job It is 150 amp service with 2/0 Al can't get inside, I will use Table 250-66 and in this case it could be #6 cu and I'll run it exposed thru the attic. If it was 200amp and 2/0 cu it would have been #4 cu. I would have been wrong. I really appreciate your advice on this iwire. Thank You.
