Situation!
Have existing service condcutors coming in from utility to a "service end box" that feeds an existing service switchboard.
They are builing a new additon to the building and want us to TAP the existing serive conductors to feed a new MDP board.
Some concerns.
1. I'd assume this tap can't be done live even though it's 120/208v?
2. If the utility was to shutdown power then the existing building would loose power. Now we have a temping out of the existinf service? Oh geez
3. Who knows what we're tapping in the "service end box" could be lugs, bus detail, existing splices? Not sure

Thank you.

1) Not likely that this can be done live.
2) if the existing building needs to maintain power you'll need some sort of temp generator.
3) you'll need to go to the site and remove the cover on the box. Bring your camera. :)

That's a lot to add to an existing service. Hopefully an engineer has done load calculations and he should be able to tell you the particulars of the tap box. Also keep 230.72 grouping in mind.
