Why do you say this??

If the outlet is installed in the living room,. the NEC requires it to be AFCI protected. There is no exception for existing dwellings

It is fine to add three standard 15 amp breakers to an existing or even new stucture.

The original poster was asking about adding breakers not outlets in an existing building. The NEC does not address adding breakers to an existing building requiring AFCI protection, but a local building department may have their own rules.

California will not adopt the 2008 code for at least 2 more years (so I'm told), so it really does depend on the AHJ and which code they're working under.

Why would you add breakers without adding outlets...unless they are doubled up on one breaker?
