My boss asked me to check out approx 50 277 volt what appear to be watertight enclosure[ nema 4?] exit lights in a 5 story employee parking garage. Each exit light has 2 145 volt 15 watt lamps energized 24/7 and 2 small wedge lamps for power failures feed by a 5 cell battery pack. With the state of the economy he would perfer just to install an approved LED retrofitkit to replace the 20 year old system. [charger, batteries, lamp holder and lamps] I could not find anything via a web search. Anyone ever use or know of any approved retrofit kits. Thanks. tom grabowski

i havent priced waterproof nema4 exit signs, but it seems like trying to retrofit those might end up costing more than replacing them.

The existing lamps are 15T6's. You can go to Brooks Equipment Company and find drop-in LED replacements. Uses about 1/10 the power and lasts about 15 years (131,400 hours). If I recall, they are about $30 a pair.

I did some more digging into the 50 exit lights.Removed the guts out of 2 and found that both of the 277 volt wires feeding the transformer were open [therefore bad]. Connected 120 volts to the black wire and one lite the 2 lamps for a second then sparked & the kiss of death the dreaded puff of smoke.2nd unit only smoked. Both ran out good before applying the 120 volts.Could only guess how many others will be the same. I would like to replace the power supply, batteries and lamps with a LED system.Being that some LEDS last over 10 years would you still need two sections of lamps? One section feed by the 277 line voltage and the other section by the batteries during a power failure.thanks
