Does anyone know if there is a specific height range given for exit Sigs?
In my area of expertise, the building official will mandate the locations. I have seen them located down low, with the thinking you will be crawling out so you will be closer to them. I have seen them up towards the ceiling.

I think other building codes don't permit anything lower then 6'-8" AFF in a corridor ceiling. To avoide people hitting their heads I assume. I don't think the NEC has any height requirements. That low, next to the door requirement might be a local thing. I think it's to avoid smoke blocking vision of the sign.

The 2006 IBC section 1011.1 is Where required. Nowhere else does it specify mounting height requirements. It simply says, "Exits and exit access doors shall be marked by an approved exit sign readily visible from any direction of egress travel." The manufacturer may have some suggested mounting height options.
